Chrissy

Snappy Tale

March 31, 2004 – December 29, 2007

This sweet puppy first came to live with me two years ago.  Chrissy was challenging, domineering, and had a high prey drive quickly earning her the moniker “Demon Seed.”  She never saw a cat or small dog she didn’t want to “play” with.  She loved to stir things up at play dates… then act innocent and seek cover when things ran amuck.  Underneath that crusty exterior was a “love muffin” contented to be held like a baby, have her belly rubbed, and kiss your nose simultaneously.  She lived up to her racing name, “Snappy Tale”… her tail was constantly banging against the walls, whipping your legs or colliding with furniture.  Chrissy was the dog I never thought would be adopted, however, she spent a year in the care of a kindly man who was able to refine some of her unrefined beauty into a prize companion pet.  It was a match made in heaven.  This past October, her owner realized he would no longer be able to care for her due to work obligations and he returned her to GPA/SAL.

Over the last one and a half months, Chrissy brought joy and loving chaos to my home.  This girl was the ultimate “Chow Hound” and a lifetime member of the “Clean Plate Club.”  She loved to ride shotgun to Meet & Greets and still loved to chase down the small dogs at the dog park.  Chrissy also served a purpose in teaching Argo and the new fosters how to really play with stuffies, causing my backyard to look like a battle zone of disemboweled play toys.  Always making sure she got her ear scritches; she would step over all other Greys to find a place in my lap for quality “Chrissy” time.  Perhaps one of my fondest “Chrissy” memories will be awakening from a sound sleep to the sounds of a man snoring… only to realize it was Chrissy, and watching her “roach” while in her crate.  This girl made the best out of everything!

One day, she let me know she was tired and no longer able to fight her illness.  Chrissy no longer showed interest in treats, cats, or going for a ride.  Chrissy curled up next to me, as if she were comforting me to make the right, selfless yet difficult decision that lay ahead.

With the wonderful, caring assistance of the Drs. Benefield and Morgan and the support of the staff of  Lake Forest Animal Clinic… Chrissy now plays with Windy and Janie at the Rainbow Bridge.
